Thanks for writing me. I’m being housed in a cell deep in the bowels of the solitary confinement unit here at Leavenworth, so apologies for the delay in responding to your message.

Apparently, they had a run on ink and papyrus in my neck of the woods and it took them a dog’s age to get me the necessary tools to write back. I’d have sent message by smoke signal, but lately they’ve been discouraging inmates from lighting fires in their cells. This has been the first opportunity I’ve had to respond.

It was nice to learn that Daulton is attempting parole. I doubt whether I will attend my hearings because I really have no hope that I will ever be paroled.

I take no comfort in knowing that somewhere on the other side of the country (is he still at Lompoc?) Daulton is suffering right along with me for the mess we got into. No, I never received a check from the CIA and I never told Daulton that I worked for the CIA. I know that was part of his defense, but it was never true.

I really don't have any idea if the fingerprint story was true. I also don't think Daulton was ever at TRW. It could be something that was made up because I don't think it was ever proven.

No, I never told Daulton we were doing anything that was a service to the government. Daulton and I discussed taking the documents to the Russians from the very beginning.

Daulton has a long history in the drug trade and he had some clients who were seriously unhappy with him. I really wouldn't be comfortable saying a lot more about it.

I doubt that anything that I could ever say would help Daulton get parole. I doubt that Daulton and I will ever be paroled. Daulton and I are doomed.
